Objectives: Mediastinitis is an infection of the mediastinal area. It is an aggressive type of infection, known for its rare, rapid progression and high mortality rates. In this study, we aimed to discuss the surgical methods and clinical outcome of 5 patients.

Methods: The records of the patients who underwent uniportal surgery with mediastinitis between January 2014 and January 2019 were determined. Demographic characteristics, time of admission, surgical procedure records, hospitalization time and final results were obtained.

Results: There were 5 patients who underwent uniportal surgery due to mediastinitis. The mean age of the patients was 48 (35-63) years. Four of the patients were male and one patient was female. The mean application time was 7 days (2-14). Four patients had right vats and one patient had bilateral vats. All patients were discharged with cure.

Conclusion: Mediastinitis requires aggressive surgery and antibiotic therapy. Uniportal surgery can be performed safely by experienced surgeons in patients with mediastinitis.
