Abstract

In this review article about pulmonary cytopathology, subjects such as the appropriate submission conditions of pulmonary cytology material to the laboratory and the cytopathological diagnostic criteriae for the diagnoses of lung carcinomas and their differential diagnoses are covered. In addition, the sensitivity and specificity of cytologic examination of sputum, various materials obtained by bronchoscopy and transthoracic fine needle aspiration biopsies are discussed.
