Abstract
Objective: This descriptive study was performed to determine the quality of life and related factors of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.
Material and Method: In the study there were 262 pulmonary tuberculosis patients who had been inpatients. Data were obtained by interviewing the patients face to face by researchers. Quality of Life, which reflects individual and pulmonary tuberculosis related features of the patients, was used.
Results: The quality of life scores of the cases were between 30 and 117, with the mean score of 86 ± 17. As the cases were investigated by means of the relationship between the quality of life and age, sex, educational condition, income, hospitalization count, comorbid disease existence, the relationship between the family, neighbours and friends after having tuberculosis, sexual intercourse with the partner, relations in professional life, taking the pills, assessment of the disease and the reliance on the health workers, statistically significant differences were achieved (p< 0,01; p< 0,05). However, there were no significant differences between the marital status, social security condition, presence of another tuberculous patient in the family, religious beliefs, continuation of therapy, tuberculosis category situation and the quality of life (p> 0,05).
Conclusion: According to our findings, the levels of quality of life of our subjects were determined by their socio-demographic and disease related properties.
