Evaluation of Atopy in Patients with Allergic Symptoms in Hatay/Dörtyol District

Abstract

Objective: Aim of the sudy was asseessment of allergen susceptibility at patinet with allergic symptoms at Hatay/ Dortyol using the skin prick test.

 

Material and Method: Skin prick test results of patients with asthma, allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria, and atopic dermatitis at Dortyol State Hospital Pulmonary Disease and Dermatology outpatient clinics between January 2008 and December 2008.

 

Results: 17,961 different patients were treated at outpatient clinics. 2950 patients (1467 female, 483 male) were included in the study and mean age was 29.7±16.8 years. There were 228 patients with allergic rhinitis, 1139 patients with asthma, 256 patients with chronic urticaria, and 327 patients with atopic dermatitis. Presence of atopy in females (74.6%) was more seen than in males (65.2%). According to the months, atopy was seen more frequently in April (91.5%), May (81.9%), and March (79.2%). Atopy in allergic rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis, and chronic urticaria were 82.9%, 76.6%, 61.8%, and 57%, respectively. More frequently seen allergens in all patients were house mites (48.5%), grass mix (39.5%), and mould mix (37.6%).

 

Conclusion: Atopy in Hatay/Dortyol is frequently seen. (Tur Toraks Der 2011; 12: 5-8)
