Abstract

Endobronchial lipoma (EL) is a rare benign neoplasm that may cause severe pulmonary damage. Herein, a patient who was diagnosed to have recurrent pneumonia and bronchial asthma (BA) has been presented and the importance of EL has been discussed in the differential diagnosis. A 52-year old female patient who had been followed with the diagnosis of recurrent pneumonia and BA in another hospital for ten years presented with dyspnea, cough, fever and sputum. Chemical blood analysis and complete blood counts were normal. Significant reversibility (41%) and airflow obstruction were found on pulmonary function testing. Her chest radiograph was normal. A computed tomography scan disclosed a consolidation in the superior segment of the left lower lobe. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy revealed a well-circumscribed, bright, polipoid endobronchial lesion obstructing almost totally the bronchus of the left lower lobe. Because of the parenchymal destruction in the left lower lobe and for exact diagnosis, left thoracotomy and lower lobectomy was performed whereby the biopsy specimen revealed endobronchial lipoma.
