Abstract
110 patients with thorax trauma who presented to our clinic between the years 2002-2005 had been assessed retrospectively. Ninety one (74.5%) of the patients are male and 19(17.2%) of the patients were female. Eighty two(74.5%) of the patients had blunt and 28 (25.4%) of them had penetrating trauma. When the relation between the trauma and the ages of the patients investigated it is showed that 82 of the patients (42.5%) who had blunt trauma are mostly in 40-50 years age group. Also 28 of the patients who had penetrating trauma are mostly (46.4 %) in the same age group again. Even the traffic accidents (56.3%) are the mostly seen etiologic factor for the blunt thorax traumas but perforating-incisive device injuries (89.2%) are the mostly reason for penetrating thorax traumas. There had been additional traumas detected in 55.4% of the cases, among those the skeleton system traumas (25.4%) are the most frequently seen. 51.8% of the patients with thorax trauma tube thoracotomy applied, 11.8% received conservative therapy, 12.7% had only thoracotomy, 3.6% of them had mechanical ventilation support applied. In the thorax trauma patients the rightdiagnose and appropriate surgical approach is the base of diminishing the morbidity and mortality of those injuries.
