Abstract

Abstract

Over stimülasyonu ,foliküler gelişim ve olgunlaşmayı artıran ve Ovulation induction is a treatment that aimed to increase the pregnancy probability by increasing the follicular growth and maturation. The most frequent complication is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Pleural effusion and abdominal ascites accumulation frequently accompany this syndrome. A 28 year old nulligravida with a 7 year history of infertility presented with a dry cough and left pleuritic chest pain. 1 week before admission dyspnea had developed and chest x-ray demonstrated a moderate left pleural effusion. Plasma estradiol and ß-HCG concentrations were 4001pg/ml and 183 IU/L respevtively. Pelvic ultrasonography showed bilateral enlarged ovaries with numerous follicular cysts and ascites compatible with ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). In the differential diagnosis of pleural effusion in young female patients, the accumulation of pleural effusion due to the recent ovulation induction history should be kept in mind, being especially important in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary embolism.
