Abstract

Abstract

Tuberculosis, which is spread through respiration and close contact, is more common in health professionals dealing with this type of patient than persons working in other professions. Active pulmonary tuberculosis was found in only one out of a total 320 health professionals working in a specialized hospital, Trabzon Chest Disorders and Tuberculosis Hospital, and Trabzon Akçaabat Government Hospital. In comparison of point prevalence of tuberculosis between the two hospitals, we found higher point prevalence in Trabzon Chest Disorders and Tuberculosis Hospital than in Trabzon Akçaabat Government Hospital. Furthermore, there was a statistically significant difference in professionals working in both hospitals in whom the tuberculin skin test was higher than 15 mm, according to the presence of direct contact with patient.
