Abstract

Abstract

Idiopathic interstitial pneumonias are a heterogeneous group of nonneoplastic disorders resulting from damage to lung parenchyma by varying patterns of inflammation and fibrosis. They are usually underestimated because of their rarity. Recently, they are increasingly taken into consideration due to more widely use of high resolution computed tomography, more accurate determination of their histopathological patterns, increased use of videoassisted thoracoscopic surgery in surgical lung biopsy and advances in their treatment.

Keywords:
idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, diffuse parenchymal lung disease, interstitial lung disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, nonspecific interstitial pneumonia, cryptogenic organizing pneumonia, acute interstitial pneumonia, desquamative interstitial pneumonia, respiratory bronchiolitis-associated interstitial lung disease, lymphoid interstitial pneumonia
